Microwave Apple Butter

Do people even make apple butter anymore? If not, I don’t know why. This recipe is delicious and with the use of a microwave and a blender or food processor it couldn’t be more simple to make.

Microwave Apple Butter

8 cups (9 medium) apples, cored, peeled and quartered
2 cups apple cider or apple juice
1-1/2 cups sugar
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon allspice

In 3-quart microwave-safe casserole dish, combine apples and cider. Microwave on High for 12 to 15 minutes or until apples are tender, stirring twice during cook time. Transfer apple mixture to blender or food processor , and process until smooth. Return apple mixture to casserole dish. Stir in sugar, cinnamon, cloves and allspice; mix well. Microwave on High for 25 to 35 minutes or until thickened and dark brown, stirring once halfway through cooking. Cool (mixture will thicken as it cools). Pour into sterilized jars; store in refrigerator. Makes 4 cups.

  1. Down where I’m from everyone I knew made it. But I go to college in the north and apparently they dont have it here. I got a Mott’s Cinnamon Applesauce cup and a bunch of sugar packets from the cafeteria, and was ablle to recreate it in the microwave. 🙂
