Simply Elegant: Black Bottom Fresh Strawberry Pie

A simple to prepare rich creamy chocolate and cream cheese filling prepared on the stove top. The chocolate layer is then topped off with fresh whole strawberries.

Black Bottom Fresh Strawberry Pie

1 (9-inch) baked pie shell

1 cup (6-ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4 cup powdered sugar
3 tablespoons cherry-flavored liqueur or water
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
2 pints fresh whole strawberries, stemmed

3 tablespoons red currant jelly
2 teaspoons cherry-flavored liqueur or water

Place chocolate chips and butter in medium saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted. Stir in powdered sugar, liqueur, and cream cheese; blend until mixture is smooth. Pour into cooled baked crust. Arrange strawberries, point side up, over chocolate mixture.

In small saucepan, heat jelly with 2 teaspoons liqueur until warm; spoon over strawberries. Refrigerate 2 hours or until well chilled. 8 servings.

Note: For an especially elegant presentation, prepare pie crust in 10-inch tart pan with removable bottom. Continue as directed in recipe.
